who am I
That question that seems simple enough to answer until Rawlin asked me to write an entire page about it. It seems like it's a question that colleges hope to discover in 300 words or less. Beyond the simple answers I would give to any aquaintance: that I'm Diane Zhao, that I'm a dancer and violinist, 17, that I'm an aspiring jellyfish, it's honestly a difficult question for even me to answer.
Well here it goes ;-; I'm a girl who cares deeply for the people and the world around her; I'm a girl who has a glass heart, shattered countless times; I'm a curious person; I'm a girl who appreciates work through action more than words; I'm a person always down to have a laugh and have some fun; I'm a girl who wishes the world would stop just for a second's time to lay down and feel the grass itching for a nap. The thing I know for sure is that I am made out of water, of course I'm emotional (quoting Rupi Kaur). |
what does lit mag mean to me
As this is the second time I've made this page, I'm less concerned over the pretty girl and dreamy aesthetic I hoped to achieve previously, but rather an unaplogetic and honest reflection of my growth and enjoyment in lit mag. This is my escape, my class to justify spending 3 hours designing rather than studying physics (so glad I'm done with that now), and my safe space to paint my creativity on the walls of this website and magazine.
Although managing thirteen kids is crazy intimidating after spending a comfortable year under seven seniors, I'm always up for the challenge. Lit Mag has also made me realize how necessary art and writing are in my own life and how I heal and grow through writing and art. My aim for this year is that I develop a rooted relationship with the staff around me, that college apps doesn't wreck me, and that I enjoy the last year of my high school career doing something I love. |

explorationwhat am I excited to try this yearAfter quarantine shut down the world last year, I struggled to get practice on the platforms we worked with for magazines. I'm excited to play and learn more about Photoshop and Indesign this year and be able to share those skills with my friends and classmates. I also want to try abstract art, creating pieces of art and writing pieces unique to me, as well as video editing, baking, music composition, and anything arts and crafts. I'm clearly ambitious and I genuinely hope that these all give me an opportunity to journey through my creative soul.
